Being Cashless

What would you do if you were told to live without cash and live only by using your card?

Well this is "the story of a young man named James, who as a bet in December 2007 agreed to live without cash, with the Queen's head on it, for a year which he is still doing today. He can only purchase items with his bank card to live, work and play.

The "no cash" adventure has completely changed the way James spends his money. He now plans his expenditure on a daily basis and as a result he structures his finances far more responsibly. Over the course of a week, James plans many aspects of his life including where he will do all his shopping and where he will socialise with friends to ensure that he can easily pay by card. It's a great way to save money.

A short video has been created by James that highlights the do's and dont's of shopping without cash."

This video got me thinking about how much it would change the way I spend my money as well as the places that I went to. As a girl who does like the finer things in life being able to use my card is a choice that I like to make. Even the other day I went to a restaurant with my girlies and decided to pay with my card, but then the chip and pin machine wasn't working. No one had any money on them (because they too were paying by card). If I was living by this "Being Cashless" lifestyle I would of been really embarrassed, as I wouldn't of been able to pay (as there wasn't any cash machines close by. Had to walk for a while to get the money out.) However, that wasn't due to any fault of my own.

Anyway, this "Being Cashless" lifestyle is a good idea. The reason being that you would be very conscious of the money that you spend. I think it would also make you very good with your finances as all your money is being extracted from one spot. Take a look at the vid and let me know if you think you could live "Being Cashless" . . .
